Thieves caused $1500 damage to steal $3000 in copper, police say

BATAVIA TOWNSHIP —A man and woman are accused of stealing copper from a Duke Energy facility in Clermont County.

Authorities said Johnny Hesler and Chastity Hamilton took the copper from a Batavia Township facility on three occasions, causing $1,500 in damage while taking $3,000 worth of copper.

After discovering where the copper was taken and sold for scrap, Duke Energy determined it was now unusable.

Hesler faces three charges each of breaking and entering and possession of criminal tools. Hamilton faces one count of each charge.

Hesler being held in Campbell County on unrelated charges.
